Power Tools make Divinity Original Sin 2 crash at launch #134

Expected Behaviour

Divinity Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition (Steam Version) launch normally with Power Tools installed in the Decky Loader. (I have an OLED Steam Deck)

Actual Behaviour

Divinity Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition (Steam Version) crashes at launch with Power Tools installed in the Decky Loader reagardless if SMT is enabled or disabled. As soon as Power Tools is uninstalled, the game works. (I have an OLED Steam Deck)

Steps To Reproduce

  1. Install Divinity Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition directly from Steam Library, it's labeled as "Great on Deck" (I tried both SD and Internal Storage)
  2. Launch it with Power Tools installed (regardless of Proton version used)

Anything else?

I tried pretty much everything before realizing it was Power Tools, from trying different Proton versions, verifying the installation, reinstalling the game, till more advanced stuff like installing VC redist and dotnet cores with protontricks. I also tried to block the Larian launcher with launch options. There's just no way of running it with Power Tools installed.
Also larian on the dedicated support page for crashes on launch mentions something with the SMT usage, it might be related to that.

Version

1.4.0

Platform

SteamDeck

OS

SteamOS 3 (Stable)

That support article seems to suggest that issue is due to having too many threads. That seems (hopefully) unrelated.

My general stance about game crashes is to not try to fix/workaround them, since it's usually indicative of a bug in the game. I'd also rather not buy a game to fix PowerTools for it. There have been a few other reports mentioning removing PowerTools fixes their crash (for other games) too, and plenty of people who don't have that crash. If someone else wants to look into this, please feel free.

@NGnius i saw that the game was baldur's gate 3. So it's just an incompatibility of power tools with the larian launcher (or the larian games). I don't think that mine is an isolated case at this point. I really tried everything and I lost something like 3 hours trying everything I could possibly do.

@GiulioTonellato I just tested this on my Oled and the game works and launches fine and was able to get into my load, so not sure why its an issue. I am using default proton and GE works fine.
